U.S. Coin Melt Values: Practical Technology for the Numismatic Community
Current metal references. Flexible calculations. Timestamped records you can keep. Our new U.S. Coin Melt Values page is another step toward practical technology built for the coin collecting community.

At Criterion, growth means more than expanding our services. It means developing tools that make numismatic information clearer, more accessible, and easier to use.
Our new U.S. Coin Melt Values page is another step in that direction. Designed for collectors, dealers, and precious metals enthusiasts, it brings current metal price references, coin melt estimates, customizable calculations, and printable records together in one straightforward resource.
Our guiding philosophy is simple: By Numismatics. For Numismatics.
Clear Information. Practical Flexibility.
Understanding the precious metal value of your coins should not require complicated spreadsheets or jumping between multiple websites.
Criterion’s U.S. Coin Melt Values page provides up-to-date price references for silver, gold, platinum, and palladium, helping you understand the estimated metal value of supported U.S. coins. Quotes refresh on page load, with a browser cache of up to 60 seconds. The displayed reference time gives each estimate context.
You can apply a percentage of melt or a multiple of face value to support the calculations that matter to you. For example, a shop rate can be entered as 80% of melt or 29 times face value. Face value means the coin’s U.S. dollar denomination, not its melt value.
Whether you are preparing a shop purchase or sale, comparing an offer, reviewing your holdings, or maintaining personal records, that flexibility helps turn a reference value into a useful working estimate.
Search by name, year, or denomination, browse the metal categories, and check the coin details to confirm the issue. Add coins to your personal list, adjust quantities, and review your estimated total in your selected display currency.
A Current Reference You Can Print and Keep
A number on a screen is useful. A dated reference you can keep, share, and revisit is even more valuable.
Our tool lets you print your melt value list or save it as a PDF, including the exact date and time of the metal price reference used for each included metal. The report also records the date and time it was prepared for printing. Those are two distinct timestamps: when the metal reference was retrieved and when your printout was created.
That detail gives your printout meaningful context, documenting the reference behind the calculation instead of leaving you with an undated total. Your list also includes quantities, metal content, estimated values, and any shop rates you entered.
For a coin shop, that can support a purchase or sales discussion. For a collector, it can provide a snapshot for personal records, comparisons, or planning. It also makes it easier to explain how an estimate was calculated when reviewing it later.
Because precious metals prices change, a printed reference is a snapshot, not a continuously updating quote or a guaranteed transaction price. Its value is in preserving the calculation and the precise reference time behind it.
Expanding Technology for the Coin Collecting Community
We see this page as more than a calculator. It represents the kind of practical technology we want to continue developing for the coin collecting community.
Our ambition is to make the connection between research, collecting, and everyday decision-making more seamless. That means reducing repetitive calculations, making information easier to understand, and giving collectors and dealers useful ways to organize and preserve what they find.
Technology should welcome people into numismatics, not make the hobby feel more complicated. A newer collector should be able to explore with confidence, while an experienced dealer should find tools that respect the way they already work.
At Criterion, we want to build around those real needs. Our continued growth will be guided by a straightforward question: how can we use technology to make the numismatic experience better?
That does not mean replacing expertise or reducing every coin to its metal content. Melt value is only one part of a coin’s story. Rarity, condition, historical significance, and collector demand can place its market value well above its precious metal value. Actual recoverable metal can also differ from an estimate based on original specifications because of wear, damage, or manufacturing tolerances.
It means giving the community another useful resource, with clear information and practical features that support informed judgment.
Our U.S. Coin Melt Values page is one more step toward that future, and we look forward to continuing to grow alongside the community it serves.
